Licensure of Military Servicemembers with Orders for Military Service in Virginia
The Supreme Court of Virginia has issued an order amending Rule 1A:8, effective immediately.
We will update our online applications and forms accordingly. In the meantime, if you wish to apply for professional license portability under Rule 1A:8, you may do so by mail to the Virginia Board of Bar Examiners, 2201 W. Broad St., Suite 101, Richmond, Va. 23220, or by email to email@barexam.virginia.gov.
Pursuant to Section 705A of the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (50 U.S.C. § 4025a), your application should include:
1. proof of military orders;
2. a copy of your marriage certificate (if applicable); and
3. a notarized affidavit affirming, under penalty of law, that
(a) you are the person described and identified in your application;
(b) all statements made in your application are true and correct and complete;
(c) you have read and understand the requirements to receive a license, and the scope of practice, of Virginia;
(d) you certify that you meet and shall comply with the requirements to receive a license, and the scope of practice, of Virginia; and
(e) you are in good standing in all States in which you hold or have held a license.
We will process and respond to your application within 30 days of receipt.
