Rule 1A:1 Admission Without Examination
The Board oversees Admission Without Examination by virtue of the Code of Virginia § 54.1-3931 and Supreme Court of Virginia Rule 1A:1.
Persons who have been admitted to practice law before the court of last resort of a state or territory of the United States or of the District of Columbia for a minimum of five years, who have met the educational requirements, who have been admitted to the bar of a Reciprocal Jurisdiction, and who have been engaged in the practice of law on a full-time basis for at least three of the immediately preceding five years, may be eligible for admission to the Virginia Bar without examination. To determine if you qualify for admission without examination, refer to the Supreme Court of Virginia Rule 1A:1 and Regulations promulgated by the Supreme Court.
